FAQ & aftercare

Questions,
answered

Everything about prepping, rinsing, and keeping the color plus the answers to most commonly asked questions!

Before your tan

How should I prep?

Shave or wax 24 hours ahead, exfoliate the night before with an oil-free scrub, and arrive with bare skin — no lotion, deodorant, makeup, perfume, or SPF.

Anything sitting on your skin acts as a barrier, and that's where uneven color comes from.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Loose, dark clothing and flip-flops. Tight waistbands, bra straps, jeans, and socks press into developing color and can leave marks before you rinse.

How far ahead of an event should I book?

Two to three days before, not the day of. Color keeps developing after you leave, and it looks and photographs its best once it has settled.

What do I wear during the tan?

Entirely up to you. Most people go without, some wear a dark bikini or underwear they don't mind. There's no wrong answer, and nothing about it is awkward.

Can I get a tan on my period, or while pregnant?

On your period, yes — it makes no difference to the tan.

Pregnant or nursing, the standard advice is to check with your doctor first. Plenty of clients do it; we just don't give medical advice.

In the studio

How long does the appointment take?

Plan on about 30 minutes door to door for your first visit — that includes the consult where we mix your color and talk through aftercare. Repeat visits move faster.

What solution do you use?

Glazed Sunless, exclusively. It's built on high-quality DHA with a balanced bronzer blend, which is why it develops evenly instead of going patchy at the knees and elbows.

Every tan is custom-mixed for your tone, undertones, and the depth you're after — no house shade.

Will I look orange?

No. Orange comes from the wrong undertone for your skin, or from a solution that's too dark for how it's applied. Both are choices made during the mix, which is why we start with your skin instead of a menu of shades.

I've never done this before. Is that fine?

Most of our first-timers say the same thing afterward — it's faster and far less awkward than they expected. You'll be walked through every step before it happens.

After your tan

When do I rinse?

We set your rinse time in the room, based on the depth you're going for and the solution we mixed. You'll leave knowing exactly when to get in the shower — don't guess from something you read online.

What does the first rinse look like?

Warm water only, no soap and no scrubbing, until the water runs clear. The color washing off is the cosmetic bronzer, not your tan. Pat dry with a towel instead of rubbing.

How long does it last?

Two full weeks with good aftercare. Moisturize daily, keep showers short and cool, and stay out of long hot baths, chlorine, and hot tubs.

What makes a tan fade early?

Hot water, exfoliating scrubs, bar soap, chlorine, salt water, and anything with a high alcohol content. Shaving also takes color off — do it gently and less often than usual.

Can I work out?

After your first rinse, yes. Before it, sweat can streak developing color — so schedule the gym before your appointment, not between the tan and the shower.

Do I still need sunscreen?

Yes. A sunless tan gives you color, not protection. Wear SPF exactly like you would without it — and it'll help your tan last, since burning peels color right off.

Booking and policies

How do I book?

Everything is online and by appointment only. If a slot is showing on the calendar, it's available — there's no waitlist to join.

What's your cancellation policy?

Move or cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment using the link in your confirmation email — there's no charge.

Any cancellation made after that point is charged 50% of the appointment total. No-shows are charged 100%.

How much does it cost?

The Salty Signature is $70 and The Salty Contour is $85. Come back within 30 days and your next tan is $50 — nothing to sign up for, we keep track.

Can I bring a friend, or book a group?

Yes. Book each person their own slot back to back so everyone gets the full consult. For bridal parties or larger groups, text us first and we'll block the time properly.

Aftercare

Extending the
Saltiness

What to expect, and what to do, from the moment you leave the studio.

01

Until your rinse

Stay dry and loose. No sweating, no swimming, no tight clothes. The bronzer on top is not the finished color.

02

First rinse

Warm water only until it runs clear. No soap, no scrubbing, no washcloth. Pat dry — don't rub.

03

Days 1 to 7

Moisturize morning and night. Short, cool showers. Skip exfoliants, bar soap, and hot tubs entirely.

04

Days 8 to 14

Keep moisturizing as it softens. When you're ready to reset, exfoliate fully — then rebook while you're inside the 30-day window.
